How to Install Tile Club’s Plume Ceramic Tile:
Inspect Tiles upon Delivery
Inspect your tiles as soon as they are delivered and before they are installed. Please contact us with questions about the material as soon as you receive them. Once tiles are installed, they are considered ‘accepted’ by the end user and cannot be returned or replaced.
Recommended Installation Guidelines
For the best results, we highly recommend contracting a licensed tile installer experienced in working with crackle-finish ceramic tiles. They should be familiar with the guidelines and industry standards of the NTCA, ASTM, M.I.A. and ANSI handbook
Prep Tiles and Surface for Installation
Pre-seal your ceramic tiles with a penetrating sealant to protect the surface from staining by setting materials and grout. (Suggested sealer brands include but are not limited to: Dupont™ Stonetech® Professional Sealer and Aqua Mix Sealer’s Choice 15 Gold. Please refer to sealers Manufacturer instructions prior to sealing. Test in a small area before sealing the entire surface to ensure suitability.)
Lay out your tiles to confirm your preferred placement and arrangement.
Make sure you have a clean, flat concrete or mortar substrate that is free of dust, contaminants, or other debris.
If you need to cut your tiles: We recommend cutting these ceramic tiles with a wet saw fitted with a diamond blade. Use a fresh saw blade and cut slowly to avoid chipping. We recommend wearing a well-fitted mask while cutting ceramic tiles.
Install Tiles
Apply your adhesive. Tile Club recommends Laticrete Spectralock® 2000 IG. Follow the application and curing settings on your mortar.
Install tiles section by section. Allow for a recommended ⅛” or 3/16” grout joint between each tile. They should not be installed without space for grout. Apply grout once the mortar has cured according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Grout and Finish Tiles
Tile Club recommends Laticrete 1600 Unsanded Grout in the color of your choice - tiles are typically pictured with this grout in Bright White. Test a small section of the grout to verify the color choice and surface application before grouting the entire area.
Grout should be applied to fill all joints fully, avoiding gaps. A grout bag (similar to a pastry bag) can be a good option for precise grout joints between these shaped tiles.
Clean excess grout from the tile surface as you apply it to avoid it hardening and creating a ‘grout haze’ that can cloud the surface of the tile and affect the color and appearance. Allow grout to cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
