Why is the matte Athena Blanc natural safe for shower floors but the polished Athena Blanc natural is not?
The matte finish offers greater slip resistance in a tile of this size, while the polished finish is naturally more slippery. Because of the larger size and lower amount of grout lines than a similar mosaic tile, that additional slip resistance is essential.
One thing to consider is whether you're installing a linear drain type shower or a standard drain (most common in the US). The size of this tile makes it essential that you use a linear drain; otherwise you need a tile 3"x3" or less to achieve the proper sloping in the shower (the mosaic tile linked above is a great example). We recommend checking with your tile installer on the drain type and our team is always happy to answer follow up questions or make additional recommendations.
