What are Peel and Stick Tiles?
Peel and stick tiles are adhesive-backed sheets featuring tile-like designs made from durable materials like vinyl, aluminum, and stone. Self-stick tiles are recommended for indoor use only, like kitchen and bathroom backsplashes, accent walls, and tiled fireplace surrounds, offering a quick, easy way to upgrade these spaces without overspending on tools, supplies, and labor costs. What’s more, peel and stick tiles can be as permanent or as temporary as you want them to be, and are lightweight enough to be applied almost anywhere!

Benefits of Peel and Stick Tile
Adhesive Tile is Affordable
When compared to traditional tile, peel and stick wall tiles are a much more cost-effective wall tile option for temporary and permanent applications alike. Though prices do vary based on tile materials and quantities, you’ll find that oftentimes your peel and stick tile choice is going to cost less than traditional tile will. While there are closeout tile options that can come out to less per square foot, traditional tiles require additional materials to complete the installation, like mortar, grout, and caulk, while adhesive tiles are a 1-step process!
Versatile Remodel Option whether you Rent or Own
Peel and stick wall tiles are great not only in homes and businesses as backsplashes, accent walls, tiled fireplace surrounds, and stair risers, but in more flexible living arrangements like RVs and converted vans as well. Self-stick wall tiles have even become a popular design trend during the pandemic to spruce up newly converted work from home spaces largely because of the wide range of aesthetic options and ability to be easily removed whenever you decide it’s time for a change.

Before installing a peel and stick tile backsplash over a stovetop, you should first check local fire codes for the appropriate distance between the heat source and the backsplash. If there is no back control panel or plate on the stove that creates a separation between the heat source and the tile, you need a minimum of 8"-9" distance between the burner and the backsplash tile. You should never install self adhesive tile near open flames, and ensure at least a 2" separation between peel and stick tiles and small cooking appliances like toasters and toaster ovens.

Frequently Asked Peel & Stick Tile Questions
Q: Can I install a peel and stick tile backsplash over existing tile?
A: Whether it’s peel and stick or traditional tile, there are multiple reasons why you shouldn’t install tile over tile. Not only can installing tile over tile affect the way your new tile looks, but it can affect how long it lasts and its grip strength. For best results, apply your self-stick tile backsplash directly to cleaned and prepped (painted or unpainted) drywall.
Q: Do you need to grout Peel and Stick tile?
A: One of the most appealing benefits of vinyl and metal peel and stick tile is that it requires no grout! On the other hand, some marble peel and stick tile designs may have slight gaps between the Carrara discs once they’re installed. If you want to fill those in, we recommend recommend an unsanded white grout.
Q: Can I order peel and stick tile backsplash samples?
A: Yes! Tile Club will send you 4 x 5” swatches of the peel and stick tile of your choice. Please note adhesive tile samples serve as a helpful way to confidently order peel and stick tile for your next renovation, and are not intended for installation.
Q: Why are some peel and stick wall tile sheets more expensive than closeout tile per square foot?”
A: Unlike sheets of regular tile that need to be installed with a traditional mortar and grouted in place, peel and stick backsplash tile sheets include the adhesive and the tile material in one easy-to-use package even the most inexperienced DIYer can successfully install. When you also consider the cost of labor, tools, and extra materials needed for traditional tile, you quickly see the cost savings associated with peel and stick tile.
Q: Can I install an adhesive tiles backsplash in my bathroom?
A: Yes! Although these tiles aren’t recommended for shower wall tiles, they can absolutely be used for a bathroom vanity backsplash tile. We recommend using them in areas that are well vented to reduce heavy moisture in the air.
Q: Can I remove adhesive tiles when I’m done with them?
A: Unlike lightweight tile stickers that are meant for temporary installations, these self-stick tiles have a heavy-duty adhesive that makes them ideal for longer wear and long-term installs.
