Two questions please. Should this tile be sealed prior to grouting? I wouldn't think so with glass tile but the color appears a little lighter after I grouted with an unsanded grout. Secondly, any suggestions for buffing it clean after grouting? A microfiber helped but it still seems cloudy.
This glass tile is not porous and should not need sealant, although you may want to seal your grout. It sounds like you may have a bit of grout 'haze' on the tiles after applying the grout - this would account for the color difference as well as the cloudy look. To remove grout haze, wait until the grout is fully cured (typically 48 hours after applying), then use warm water and a gentle abrasive cloth, like cheesecloth, to buff the tiles. You can also look into a grout haze remover, but make sure it is specifically approved for glass tiles. Always test the scrubber and the remover on a small section of tile in a corner before you apply it to the whole tile.
Are the more colorful leafs metal or also glass tiles?
The entire tile is made reycled glass with the mesh backing as the only other material. The metallic-looking pieces have an iridescent finish applied to the glass surface.
Would this tile be a good application for a gas fire place surround? What type and color grout is used in the image? Thank you.
Yes! You can install this recycled glass tile on a fireplace surround (not directly exposed to the flame but on the fireplace facing). We use Laticrete Bright White grout for our installation photos - you can choose the color of your preference! We recommend testing a small area of grout in the corner to make sure you like the look before grouting your entire tiled area.
