How to Beautify Your Home Office

Now that millions of people worldwide are working from home while self-isolating, the ‘home office’ lifestyle has become the new normal for many of us. You might be thinking “no commute and pajamas all day? This isn’t so bad!” Working from home can actually be a nice break from going to the office, but having an ongoing work from home situation means we need to find new ways to stay motivated and productive. The key is to create an encouraging work environment to help you feel focused and inspired all day!

Kitchen Offices

Creating a kitchen office is often a clever space-saver, especially in smaller homes with open plan living areas.  A table and a comfortable chair can do wonders to transform an empty wall section, an area of dead space or even an unused closet in your kitchen

A small breakfast nook is a great option for creating your small home office area! You can seamlessly incorporate a home office into your kitchen by adding a slim countertop piece and installing cabinets or shelves above the desk area for your storage needs.  Don’t forget to surround yourself with things that inspire you! A beautiful backsplash behind your work station will create a great focal point for working, as well as beautifying both your office and kitchen décor.

A simple textured backsplash such as our Fabrique glass tiles can easily be incorporated in any style of kitchen décor and give your ‘office area’ an easy, quick refresh. Or you may consider going into a new direction with our Steampunk Brown Glass and Resin Polished Mosaic tiles to add an energizing effect, while visually separating your office nook area from the rest of your kitchen.

This is a project you can even DIY while self-isolating - check out our blog post for more!

If your space is limited, you can also choose to use your kitchen table instead. For your storage needs, repurpose a bar cart or caddy on wheels to keep office supplies and accessories in arm’s reach and easily tuck them away in a closet at the end of each day. Adding new tile flooring is another way to beautify your kitchen space while you use it as your everyday office. Tile floors are not only incredibly durable for your everyday needs but also great for easing your cleaning routines. Need some extra visual interest in the space? Then add a pop of pattern with tiles to infuse a bit of energy into the work day and keep those creative juices flowing. This kitchen with Selo Grand Hexagon Carrara And Thassos Marble Mosaic tile floors shows how a small swatch of pattern has big impact in creating a visually attractive space.

Transform Your Garage

Too much noise in the house to focus? We know how difficult it is being stuck at home with kids who are trying to avoid remote schoolwork! Do you desperately need your own peace and quiet?  This is a great time to transform a section of your garage to utilize it as a home office!

Consider this extreme spring cleaning and clear out as much as you can to get started. Most garages aren’t too well lit, so we recommend repurposing lamps from around the house or ordering a few new ones to brighten up the space (you can even find full spectrum lamps to give that daylight feeling!)

Now all you need is a desk and chair, and maybe some tile flooring especially if you are planning to utilize your garage office in the long run. Tile flooring will not only help you create an office look for your work environment but will also be resistant to any damages your floor may face with car fluids, water, dirt or other chemicals. Dark tiles are a great option to minimize concerns about dirt or smudges!

Space-Saving Laundry Rooms

Your laundry room can be more than just a laundry room! With a few changes and some creativity, a full size laundry room can easily double as an office area where you can catch up on emails or spend your whole day working from home.

Flooring will play a big role in shaping the overall appeal and functionality of this multipurpose space. If your washer and dryer are located in the mudroom or utility room, your flooring will face additional threats like dripping umbrellas or mud tracked in from the outdoors. Luckily tile flooring is perfect for areas that are prone to moisture!

While it’s true that this space should always be functional, who said it couldn’t be fun? Choose your favorite tile for your floors and walls in your laundry area to beautify this space and turn it into a more pleasant room to work in! Colored backsplashes can add a small but distinct pop of color for a more attractive design. But if bright colors aren’t your style, try classic marble tiles on your floors for a more clean, calm atmosphere. You can also add a fresh coat of paint and accents like a rug, artwork, and plants to personalize your décor even more.

Living Room Offices

If you don’t have to share your living space with anyone else and or prefer a spacious working zone, a living room office might be the solution you’re looking for. A home office carved out of a family room can be both comfortable and spacious, often with less furnishings required. You can consider placing a desk behind your sofa, using a small cocktail table in an unused corner, or utilizing the space under your stairs to create your work environment. Try designing a compact office in your living room’s unused spaces! These are also great ways to increase your home’s functionality and set up working zones without isolating yourself from others, especially if you want to keep an eye on kids while getting work done.
